Wreck of the Redbird

The Redbird was a steam powered single-screw tug, built in 1914 in Williamstown, Victoria Australia. It was originally called 'Anzac', but this name was changed when the federal government passed a law prohibiting it's use for commercial purposes.

The vessel was operated by the Melbourne Harbour Trust until 1934 when it was sold to a Mr J. L. Dyson, who wanted to convert the boat into a fishing trawler. This plan was never realised, and during a severe storm in 1940 the Redbird broke adrift from her moorings, and was stranded on the mud near Hastings Jetty. More info can be found at the Heritage Council Victoria website.
